As part of the project “Protection Within Four Walls: Combating Domestic Violence Against LGBTIQ Persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” funded by the European Union and supported by the Sigrid Rausing Trust, a working meeting was organized on October 18, 2024, for LGBTI+ rights activists from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS). The goal was to strengthen capacities and foster joint action to protect the LGBTI+ community.
The meeting brought together dedicated community members actively working to improve LGBTI+ rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, allowing us to collectively analyze the current situation and define concrete steps for future advocacy initiatives.
The main objectives of the meeting included reviewing the current status, assessing the participants' capacities, and creating advocacy ideas for initiatives promoting the respect and implementation of the Istanbul Convention in FBiH and RS. Special attention was given to protecting LGBTI+ victims of domestic violence.
Various mechanisms and possibilities for submitting initiatives at different levels of government were presented. These steps are an essential part of a broader plan, which will be further developed through the work of the group and supported by our project.
We extend our gratitude to all participants for their constructive ideas and the energy they brought! Through collective effort, we will continue striving for a safer and fairer society for all.
