As part of the project "Protection within four walls: The fight against domestic violence against LGBTIQ persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which is financed by the European Union, and with the support of the donor Sigrid Rausing Trust, a round table was held on the topic of safe houses, which resulted in the signing of the Agreement on cooperation between the Tuzla Open Center, UG Vive Žene and Krila nade. The goal of this agreement is to improve the position of LGBTI+ people in our society.
During the round table, we presented the results of the Sarajevo Open Center's research on domestic violence against LGBTIQ persons. The research showed that 75% of LGBTIQ people who experienced domestic violence feared for their lives in moments of violence, and only 55.6% of them sought help, namely 79.2% from friends, 41.7% from a mental health center. health, 33.3% from other family members, and non-governmental organizations, the center for social work, the police, private psychotherapists, psychiatrists and partners.
After the presentation, we started an important discussion with the aim of exchanging knowledge and experiences, and answered specific questions regarding the operation of safe houses and support for LGBTI+ people in need.
This round table led to closer cooperation between organizations, the creation of a mutual support plan, and the definition of future steps such as additional educations, round tables and seminars, all in order to ensure a safe place for LGBTI+ victims of domestic violence.
