In the past period, a significant meeting was held with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, attended by the Tuzla Open Center team, including project coordinator Josip Ventić and program manager Ajla Jakupović. The topic of the meeting was the current restrictive Law on Public Assembly, and the discussion included the possibilities of joint action to improve the right to freedom of assembly in the Tuzla Canton.
The challenges and limitations posed by the current law were discussed, and possible strategies for its reform were analyzed in order to strengthen democratic principles and protect basic human rights. Those present expressed their readiness for constructive dialogue and cooperation with all relevant actors in order to achieve a balance between security needs and the freedom of assembly of citizens.
Continued cooperation with all relevant partners will be key to achieving positive changes in this area. The Tuzla Open Center will continue to work actively on monitoring and improving the legislative framework, and will continue to work on raising awareness of the importance of freedom of assembly and other fundamental rights. This initiative is an important step in ensuring better conditions for expressing civil views and freedom of assembly in Tuzla Canton.
The project entitled "Freedom of assembly as the heart of the fight for LGBTI equality" is implemented by the Tuzla Open Center with the support of the United States Government through the USAID Inspire Human Rights Support Program.
