The report on the state of human rights and needs of LGBTI+ persons in Tuzla Canton in 2025 was born out of the need to ensure a realistic, thorough and comprehensive insight into the daily challenges faced by LGBTI+ persons in the area of the Tuzla Canton. The goal of the report is not only to record the presence of discrimination, violence and institutional neglect, but also to listen to the needs of the community, recognize positive practices and identify concrete opportunities for improving the quality of life of LGBTI+ people.
The report is based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods that include desk research, legal analysis, assessment of the political and social climate, and analysis of data collected through a structured questionnaire among members of the LGBTI+ community.
In line with the research findings, the report is structured around the following thematic areas:
legal and social position of LGBTI+ people,
safety, protection and institutional trust,
public action and freedom of assembly.
Special focus is placed on the overall state of human rights, the availability and quality of institutional protection, as well as the trust that LGBTI+ people have in key actors of the system. As part of the above, the report includes an analysis of social relations and acceptance, as well as the perceptions of the general public and the specific needs of LGBTI+ people, with the aim of identifying potential areas for improvement of both the work of the Tuzla Open Center and the relevant institutions.
